The Dark Lady is the first poetry collection by Janet Morris. Poems range from love poems to poems about the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol to friendships that blossomed and ones that fell apart to ballads about murderous ghosts. Current events, mental illness, past traumas, an overactive imagination, and present and future joy inspired the writing of these poems.
Most poems are done free style, though some adhere to traditional rhyming and rhythm schemes. There is some language in the poems that may not be suitable for those under the age of 16, though most younger teens will likely be familiar with the terms. Poems also reference topics such as rape, suicide, self-injury, violent behavior, and various feelings of insecurity and anxiety. Discretion is advised.
Hardcover and Paperback copies will not be shipped until after October 15.
